Where We Started
Karnes County EMS was founded in July of 1972 as a volunteer ambulance service. KCEMS operated as such for many years providing "911" response for the residents of Karnes County. Ambulances were staffed with local volunteers that were TDSHS certified at the EMT-B, EMT-I, EMT-P or LP level. On October 1, 2013 KCEMS became a full-time paid department.
Where We Are Today
Today our total fleet consists of five mobile intensive care ambulance units, two quick response command vehicles, and one incident command trailer that is deployed, staffed, and maintained by KCEMS personnel. All of which is operated 24/7/365 out of three stations strategically placed in the county. Future expansion is consistently evaluated and planned for to keep up with the growth and needs of the county and its residents.
